Katie Coker Keeps Grades in Focus During Last Semester

By Katie Coker on Thursday, January 20, 2011

One more semester to go! I can’t believe that my senior year is almost over. It is flying by so fast.  I don’t even have time to think.

When we got back from Christmas break, all that I heard were teachers talking about senioritis.  They say that at this point seniors start to slack and their grades drop.  A few seniors at my school in the past thought that their grades were good and so the last semester they didn’t really need to do anything. Well, they were wrong. At graduation they didn’t receive a diploma.

Trust me! I know it is hard and we are all ready to start a new chapter in our lives, but your senior year is one of the most memorable in your life.  Don't wish it away -- you will never get to relive these moments. I am not going to lie -- on the first day back at school a few tears were shed because I had to start waking up early and engage my brain.

Every time I get down, I remember that in only a couple months I will be walking across the stage getting my diploma and going on my senior trip. Yes, I said senior trip, and that is one reason that is keeping me going these days.

Here’s a tip: If you ever feel down about school and feel senioritis coming on, remind yourself of graduation and the fun and learning to come in college; make that your happy place! And if you don’t graduate, you won’t experience any of that.

January, February, March, April, May  ... graduation!  It will be here before you know it. Don’t forget to stay focused and don’t let your grades slip; we’ve all worked so hard these past years and that effort shouldn’t go to waste.
