Tearani Buffington Starts Formulating a College Essay

By Tearani Buffington on Tuesday, October 26, 2010

It’s time to pick out topics for our college essays. I know, right? Dreading. I have been thinking of a lot of things to write about, but I have nothing! I have major writer’s block.

I want my essay to be interesting and something that the admissions counselor would not be reading for the 1,000th time. For example, I was going to write about Girls State and my experience, but I feel like it didn’t have enough substance and it didn’t have that “shine” that I was looking for. Although Girls State was an amazing time of my life, I don’t think I can base an essay on it.

So now I am in the process of picking a topic. I know I need to stay away from topics that don’t show my personality. If you have an essay that doesn’t “shine,” it can sink the whole application. When I’m done with my college essay, I want you to read it AND best yet, make comments! Maybe that will help all of us out.
