Four Things to Consider When Choosing A College

By Tearani Buffington on Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Senior year is so stressful! At school, my classes are so hard!  I didn’t expect it to be this way. It makes me mad because I need GOOD grades, but all my teachers are pounding me with homework.

I decided that University of Arkansas is my top choice for college. I like UA and the tradition that comes with it. Not only is it three hours away from my family, but it’s going to be a place where I can gain more independence. Being three hours away, my parents just can’t come up here if I have a bad headache. I’ll have to fend for myself -- which I’m excited to do.

More than that, UA appeals to me academically (since it offers my major) and it seems like a good university that has good (wholesome) fun, such as football and lots of school-related activities. I like this because I think it will reinforce my focus on my studies.

Four things I’m considering before picking my future college are:

  • My major (chemistry)
  • The people (are they friendly or not)
  • The location (what will the weather be like?)
  • Can I obtain all of a four-year degree there?

I think you should consider these things, too!

On a another note, I am so nervous about my ACT test scores that should arrive this month! I was SO sick and was coughing so hard that I could barely focus during the exam. That was frustrating. Now I am studying for the SAT Subject II Test to see if I might perform/score better on the SAT than the ACT.  I really need scholarships, so I need the highest score I can get.

On a side note, I went to the library and got all of these “get ready for college” books. They really help -- you should try them (more on that later).

XOXO,
