Take Five: Trey and the ACT

By Trey Schucker on Wednesday, September 22, 2010

I took the ACT on Sept. 11. It was hard to get up the morning of the test because I played a football game the night before so I was really stiff rolling out of bed. My dad made me bacon and biscuits for breakfast; that made my morning start off better.  It’s always good to eat something before any kind of test because it’s hard to think if you’re hungry.

I arrived at the University of the Ozarks around 7:45 a.m. A few of my teammates were taking the test and they looked pretty tired and sore too. I went into the test thinking, “I don’t even think I can do very well, I just want to go home.”

The first part of the test started off really easy for me, so I finally got in the mood and took the test seriously.  I thought the test, overall, was one of the easiest ACT tests I’ve taken. This was my fifth time to take it and I would like to improve a point or two.

I took the summer CPEP course going into my junior year, which really helped me out a lot.  My score jumped up two points.  I know some of my classmates’ scores shot up five and six points. The course helps everybody differently.

I finished all parts of the ACT successfully except for the reading, which came right after a break. The reading is never interesting and I had a hard time getting through the passages. I had to look back through the passages to find some answers that I should have known.

I feel very confident about all of the other parts of the test, though.  I am not signed up for the October test but I might sign up for the December one.  I’ll have to see what I get on this test.  Now the waiting game begins for my scores.
