Q: When did you first get introduced to this career?
A: “I had always known I wanted to work in media and public relations, but I had never considered doing it for the Army,” Bryce said. “I read the description for this one and it fit like a glass slipper. Six months later, I was getting my head shaved at boot camp.”
Q: What do you love about being in the military?
A: “The Military gave me a very fair path to success,” Bryce said. “I needed to advance myself from being an aimless teenager to becoming a motivated and driven young adult … I can enjoy things like good health care, steady pay, education benefits and more.”
Q: What do you enjoy about being a photojournalist?
A: “I am a conduit. My job is to get up every day and create media that shows parents, siblings, children, families and friends that the work that their loved ones do is valuable and needed. I get to show the community the work that we do every day for them.”
Q: What qualities and skills would make someone good at this job?
A: “If you’ve got an eye for what makes a good photo, the heart of a storyteller and just a little grit in you, public affairs might be for you. Don’t worry about what you can and can’t do … all you need to bring with you is the want to do it. All you have to do is want [it].”
