UCA’s Jordan Howard Follows His Basketball Dreams After College

Jordan Howard (22) is one of the talented and lucky few to make their sports dreams a reality. The Chandler, Arizona, native’s skills and 4.3 GPA landed him a full-ride scholarship to UCA where he was point guard for the Bears basketball team from 2014-18. Jordan became the third men’s basketball player to win both the 2018 Southland Player of the Year award and 2015 Freshman of the Year honor in his career. His stellar skills on the court landed him a place on the Golden State Warriors team for the 2018 NBA summer league program.

Despite all of his success with basketball, Jordan understood it was important to have other career options besides basketball. He graduated from UCA with a degree in filmmaking, which has been a passion of his from an early age.

“Of course, my first option was to play professional basketball,” he says. “But it’s helpful to be talented in other things and have other skills. Once I got to college, I knew filmmaking was what I wanted to pursue. One of my first questions when I was being recruited for basketball was if UCA had a filmmaking program.”

After the NBA summer league, he hopes to move onto the professional stage in the NBA or overseas. But even if that doesn’t happen, Jordan’s set himself up for a promising career in the filmmaking industry, too.
