COVID-19 has touched every one of us.

We have watched the coronavirus grow from a small news story about an unknown illness in a faraway place into a frightening pandemic that has billowed across our nation like a toxic fog.

We have watched our amazing health care professionals grapple tirelessly with the mysterious illness, trying to stop its spread, treating the sick and seeking to develop a vaccine. Our medical clinics and hospitals have responded heroically to this worldwide health crisis.

In the midst of it, the coronavirus has illuminated the complicated nature and the importance of our health care system.

We have seen the intersection of many specialized professions, all of which are crucial to a complete health care system: Medical doctors and doctors of osteopathic medicine. Paramedics. Emergency room doctors and nurses. Respiratory therapists. Researchers. Registered nurses. Medical technicians. That’s a very short list of the many important jobs.

There never has been a greater need for young people to enter the health care profession than now. So, I’ve compiled a short list below of the reasons I think a career in health care is worth considering.

COVID-19 has changed everything about our lives. As I write this, we have no idea how long we will remain in its grip. I am grateful for the health care professionals who have guided us through this time. They have set the standard and inspired a new generation of professionals.
